The Infamous
Exploding Whale
There's been a story floating around the net for years about a
beached whale that was blown up (exploded, not inflated) for lack of a
better way to be rid of it. In a lot of cases, people thought it was an
urban legend. Dave Barry even wrote
an article about it.
As it turns out, a news crew was on hand to view this
historical event, and got the whole thing on tape.
Lucky for us, someone with a lot of time on their hands
was able to convert it to a handy digital format.
It was a big whale.
It was a smelly whale.
Most importantly, it was a dead whale.
Obviously, a significant amount (half a ton) of dynamite was
required.
Looking for a way to kill some time for the next few minutes?
Of course you are... that's what the WWW is all about.
So, for your viewing pleasure, the FULL NEWS
REPORT (yep, audio and video) in QuickTime format is available. It's
about 11 meg, but it's definitely worth the wait.
And, per request, you can now get the file via
ftp.
Don't have a QuickTime viewer? Such programs (for a variety of systems)
are available for download!
This web page has generated far more excitement than it should among any
semi-intelligent race. Besides being written up in the New York Post (can
someone send me a copy of the article?), it's highlighted by the following
