Just bought it off Cribbs.

Anyone here actually played it? The fans behind it are insane, I look forward to giving it a shot.

It's hella fun, but I hate the retarded end boss.

I actually repurchased this game after a topic someone made on the ZSB a few months ago.

I just bought it for 10 bucks the other day. Haven't touched it since the second dungeon since I've been buying hella stuff lately, but it does hold up as a solid game. I might go back to it soon to save my wrist from Resident Evil 4 Wii.

JJ and I used to play it all the time. It's a fantastic game. I just recently re-bought it but have yet to actually sit down and play it.

What makes it so fantastic? DC says it gets so much love just because it was underrated.

I played it up to Dungeon #2. Then, just like almost every game I've bought since 2002, I took my attention off it when I got something else.

It was too early to tell if BG&E was overrated, but it seemed solid to me.

Same for me. We'll see how far I get.

I'm going to play Rygar first I think.

I just got it two days ago, actually, and I've been meaning to post impressions. Loads of fun. Why is everyone here getting it all of a sudden?

I somehow feel like almost everything TWW and/or TP did wrong, BG&E does right, but everything BG&E does wrong, TWW and/or TP did right. You could combine them, and get the perfect Zelda game.

One thing BG&E does really well is mix several different gameplay styles effectively, without losing focus on anything. There are various chunks of action, exploration, puzzle solving, stealth, and... photo taking, but it's generally really seamless, and the dungeons (of which I think there are only four, and the first one wasn't that long) are long enough to focus on each at different points.

The stealth gameplay is pretty fun, once you get further in. I find the MGS and Boktai games, from what I've played, are great at letting you approach a situation in a variety of ways. (Too bad MGS completely sabotaged this for the rest of the game following Psycho Mantis, but the first Boktai was really amazing at this, and the wide enemy variety almost all stealth parts of games lack helped it even more.) BG&E is a little more clear cut if you're focusing just on not getting seen, and the enemies are still largely blind and deaf, but you can take a more aggressive approach sometimes and try and actually defeat the enemies. It's just that in some places, if you get seen, it's instant death. Still, shooting their air tanks is lots of fun. As is sneaking up right behind them.

And despite the lack of proper dungeon areas, there are loads of mini-dungeons and optional quests. Probably a few too many of those are racing/chasing down an enemy in your hovercraft, and not quite enough are those great obstacle courses or enemy-filled areas, but they do fill out the game quite a bit, and make up for a lack of actual stuff you have to do before going to dungeons.

I played Beyond to the second dungeon or so. To me, the genre-mashing didn't seem to work that well. The stealth, racing, and action all seemed lackluster when compared to games that focused on a specific kind of event. Then I got stuck at a puzzle or something and never really cared to try to pick it back up, so I just sold it.

I've had it for about a year. It's a solid game but if DC is saying it gets most of the love because nobody bought it I would have to agree. Pretty good, 7.5/10

BG&E probably spends more time developing its stealth gameplay than the first Metal Gear Solid did. And it eventually gets really good.

I'm not looking forward to reaching the ending, because I know it was supposed to be a trilogy... Why do people not buy great games?

*SPOILERS, MOSTLY JUST FOR GAMEPLAY*

Wow, I thought the game had already explored every genre and subgenre (of Action/Adventure games in general) possible, and then near the end it becomes a space shooter, Star Fox-esque boss fight and all. Pretty nicely done, and a great final boss after that as well.

Also, goddamn the sequel teasing in the ending. The game basically just ends after the final boss, without properly explaining the massive plot twist at the end, which basically freaking changes everything and doesn't make sense. And then after the credits, there's a really stupid thing setting up for the next game. Which is probably never coming. *sigh* I can understand why people would hype it, perhaps even more than it deserves, to compensate for the low sales. I'd do the same thing for DKJB. BG&E may not be better than Zelda, but everyone KNOWS that Zelda is great, people don't seem to acknowledge BG&E enough.
