Well, people can post all kinds of gibberish then argue that it's acronym of some kind after they got modded. Thing is, it's sometimes hard to tell who's real and who's not.

Well, the fact he has a past history could come into effect but not always. Remember, a past offender is not ALWAYS wrong... his past should only have an effect on the SEVERITY of the moderation, not whether or not it happens at all. There are literally thousands of accepted acronyms out there, 90% of which I doubt either of us know. And more are created daily, damn near hourly. There has never been a rule against it on this message board, and there's a reason for it.
Of course, if his past history is that of posting random, pointless and meaningless words at odd places then complaining about the moderation... By all means, fry the man. But if his past is for flaming, modding him for Disruptive based on that is senseless... --- "+++ Divide By Cucumber Error. Please Reinstall Universe And Reboot +++" Hex |

thing is that the 4 letters ROTF were easily spotted in it, and ROTF is a well known acronym for Rolling On The Floor. Thus common sense would tell you that it was an acronym for laughing.

the laughing one MAKES SENSE.
Not really it doesn't.

Now, back on topic...
EROPTF was determined by Google to mean nothing. You say it means "easily rolling on parta the floor". Now, Google checks damn near the entire Internet for anything that contains the acronym EROPTF. Now, Google searched over three billion web pages, and found nothing that would support the statement that EROPTF means "easily rolling on parta the floor". Ergo, you (or a friend) just now made it up.
Now, making up acronyms isn't a bad thing. Granted, someone out there has the claim to fame of being the first person to use LOL. But way back when LOL meant nothing, had someone just posted LOL and given no explanation as to what LOL meant, that too would have been disruptive. (But, I must say that it might have been overturned, as "laughing out loud" is a reasonable acronym. When I read what EROPTF stood for, I was EROPTF cause of how lame an acronym it is.)
Let's look at it this way. Suppose someone makes a thread, and I reply with "OADSNGODSAGNDSOTJRDSOTJDASOJFOEWTUODTURM", I'll obviously get modded, and I contest with "But OADSNGODSAGNDSOTJRDSOTJDASOJFOEWTUODTURM stands for [insert acronym that means the same thing as LOL]", would you honestly reverse it? --- Read my comics: http://www.stripcreator.com/view.php?author=Muherfurce |

Actually I'm usually modded for flaming or trolling and don't think I can ever recall being modded for posing random things at odd places. Not that easy to do in fact... And it really depends on the situation. If you type Mxyptlk and you say it's an acronym for "My eX, Yo, Parties Tonight Like Krazy" it's rather obvious you're BSing... your google logics contain many flaws,
First of all if i were to create a site with EROPTF right now and google would list it, then it would be ok in your eyes.
Second: google is not a dictionary.
Third: google does come out with results with even stranger letter combinations, that would be existing words in your mind?
Fourth: your letterrow indeed makes no sense, but as i said before the 6 letter acronym contained ROTF which is a well known acronym
Fifth: your google logics make no sense at all

"If the reply was ONLY 6 LETTERS LONG, the thread was humorous, and 4 of the letters are eaisly spotted as an acronym for laughing, I think it would be different than posting "SEGFSGFSGSGSGFSDHSEGAWTGFSE""
A: Acronym size doesn't matter. There are some bloody long, but generally accepted acronyms out there.
B: Whether or not the thread is humorous is also irrelevant. I checked the TOS to see if it applies to humorous topics as well. Apparantly, it does.
C: Easily spotted? Heck no, you'd have to be actively searching for 4 of the letters being R, O, T, and F to notice it. And even if it was easy, it's still also irrelevant. By your logic, I could post "fort" or "tfor" or "orft" and claim that the mod should have easily spotted that it was an allusion to ROTF. --- Read my comics: http://www.stripcreator.com/view.php?author=Muherfurce |

Actually, it's CRUCIAL to the case. If the thread had no humor at all, then his claim would be unfounded and obviously false. If the thread was pretty humorous, then his claim has a pretty good base... --- "+++ Divide By Cucumber Error. Please Reinstall Universe And Reboot +++" Hex |

All valid points. Of course having one hit on Google doesn't make an acronym accepted worldwide. However the fact that EROPTF didn't even get one hit on Google says something about how obscure it is.
Fourth: your letterrow indeed makes no sense, but as i said before the 6 letter acronym contained ROTF which is a well known acronym
So would "ADGDSAGASFIHGDSGHDASHGSIGHNDFSGKASEIKUJOTAEUAGDKNGDKNVIRHGOIFDJROPTF" be okay with you? I mean, it contains ROTF and all.

your ignorance bothers me...
There are some bloody long, but generally accepted acronyms out there.
Define generally accepted, i don't think internet slangs are generally accepted except by the people who make use of the internet themselves. Acronyms like like LOL, LMAO, BRB, BBL, PIMP etc. sure aren't in the dictionary, yet according to you they are "generally accepted". More and more acronyms are created each day, there are some against the ToS which i didn't even know they existed. So who is to say that LOL is generally accepted but NLAA isn't?

Define generally accepted
Accepted by the general population of people who would have some need to use the phrase.
Example: LOL is "generally accepted" by the Internet population, because near all Internet users know what it means. Now sure, Bubba Joe who can't afford to have non-roadkill meals won't know what it means, but he doesn't have the need to know it. If he finds Foxworthy hee-larious, he doesn't say "LOL", he laughs. He has no need for LOL. Internet users do though, because you can't laugh on the Internet (at least not until speakerchat hits the masses :). LOL, et. al., is the only means of laughing on the Internet. Since a big majority of Internet users know what LOL is, it's generally accepted by the Internet population.

well, there's not much else to do if reasonable arguing doesn't get through to you.
LOL is accepted because a lot of people know what it means and EROPTF is not because no one knows what it means. Creating new original abbrevations is a crime now? The guy who came up with LOL should be hanged? Using an abbrevation unknown to many people is against the ToS? show me where..

Disruptive Posting
Posts that disrupt the message boards for other users, intentional or not, are prohibited. This includes, but is not limited, to:
* Message posts or topic titles that force browsers to scroll horizontally * Large blank or content-free posts * "Bumping" multiple older topics (posting in them well after the last post) * Posting multiple identical or near-identical messages or topics, including "fad" topics * Intentionally hard-to-read topic titles (i.e. ALL CAPS, AlTeRnAtE cApS, no spaces, no or excessive punctuation, 1337 speak, et cetera) * Posting multiple hard-to-read or nonsensical messages in a single or multiple topics * Posting large ASCII art (except in social topics specifically calling for it) * Post counting (i.e. "First", "100th Post")
When I first saw that, it seemed very nonsensical, I didn't know what it meant or heard of it 'till today... --- <CapnCloud> i have a screenshot coming... it's coming... hrrrrrghhhh |
