Wii Sports reviews: http://wii.advancedmn.com/article.php?artid=8196 Visuals - Wii isn’t about graphics, but Wii Sports is the most simplistic-looking sports game you’ll probably see this generation. The saving grace – and what keeps it from looking ugly – is its relatively clean look. - 5.0 Sound - Sounds effects are solid and the music is too. - 7.0 Control - Easy and intuitive. The only problem, really, is in regards to the game sometimes misinterpreting your Wii-mote’s movement, thus resulting in some bizarre happenings. The fact that you could easily cheat in the game is something to consider, too. 8.0 Gameplay - If you don’t smile at least once while playing Wii Sports, you need to see a doctor, because this game is fun. Lack of online play and deeper single-player is a real killer, though. - 8.0 Replay - You’re bound to revisit Wii Sports, especially with friends. This is an ideal party game for sports fans, gamers and just regular people. - 8.0 Overall - 7.5 http://www.lawrence.com/news/2006/nov/11/review_wii_sports_wii/ Good: Fantastic introduction to the Wiimote, great multiplayer, hilarious custom Mii characters Bad: Boxing is a bit lacking, some may complain about the visuals Graphics: 6.5 Sound: 7.0 First Play: 9.5 Replay Value: 9.0 Gameplay: 9.0 Overall: 8.9 --- "You win, I was wrong" ~ Impossible II Try ZSB: http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/gentopic.php?board=548 {åß} |

Trauma Center Now that the Wii launch is truly underway, is Trauma Center worth another dose? Yeah, it is. Putting aside the fact that Second Opinion is a retelling of the DS version, the game is absolutely perfect as an introductory game for Wii players. There’s a ton of diversity in the missions, an all-new Hard mode for previous fans of the series, and an entirely new sixth chapter of the game to appease the “been there, done that” attitude of the hardcore crowd. Trauma Center has a charming style, decent graphical and audio presentation, but really excels in the control department. The franchise has been given a rebirth on Wii, and it has never been better. Everything from interface navigation to tool switching and actual surgical actions is made easier with the Wii-mote/nunchuk combination, and that alone makes it worth your launch dollars. Under the Knife showed players what DS was all about, and now we’re seeing Second Opinion doing the same thing as it ushers Nintendo fans into a new era of innovation and control. 8.0/10 http://wii.ign.com/articles/745/745710p1.html Wii Sports Wii Sports is a successful showpiece for Nintendo's new hardware and a fantastic means to get non-gamers talking about Wii. Not all of the games are spectacular. Given the choice, I'd prefer not to play either boxing or golf, which is disappointing because both sports seem like a fine fit for the remote. But the games that do work really work. Baseball is good in short bursts. Tennis is a lot of fun, especially with two or more. And bowling is fantastic – I can't wait for Nintendo to use these mechanics and release the inevitable (and much deeper) Mario Bowling. What you're going to find in Wii Sports is a title that demonstrates the potential of the Wii remote, but comes up short in depth and visuals. Play it for an hour with friends and you'll love it. Your non-gamer friends will be dazzled by the immediately intuitive controls and the imported Miis. But the title sacrifices incredible depth and visuals for an immediately accessible experience. 7.5/10 http://wii.ign.com/articles/745/745708p1.html --- "You win, I was wrong" ~ Impossible II Try ZSB: http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/gentopic.php?board=548 {åß} |

Trauma Center only gets an 8.0, but an Editor's Choice Award? That must be because it ****ing rocks, but somehow fun isn't indicative of quality. And I'm already seeing the beginning of constant low graphics scores that make no sense. 6.0 for Trauma Center? I don't see anything bad looking about it. Maybe 6.0 for an Xbox 360 game? I'm not sure how you would further improve the graphics of a game like that. --- "All opinions are not equal. Oh, and Wii Sports gets a 4.0 for graphics. This is ridiculous, honestly, I can't believe how they're judging graphics... So much for a 10/10 for Twilight Princess, even if it deserves one. They're going to pretend it was made ground up for the Wii and that the graphics look like a GCN game. --- "All opinions are not equal. Um... Wii Sports' graphics are ass. What the hell else are they supposed to give it but a 4? It's not like it got a 1. And TP does have GC graphics, games like Mario Galaxy look better. Why would Zelda deserve a 10 compared to other Wii games? I don't see why TC only merited an 8, but I'm also sick of seeing every good game getting a 9. Glad to see IGN acknowledging that an 8 game is a good game. Anyway, That seems to be "Crush Challenge", a single-player mode. It looks like it may be available in all of the regions, but the only one I've seen so far has been Mexico. No word on how it's unlocked, or whether it's possible to play it in two-player mode. From what I've seen in vids, it seems as though it's available from the Challenge option on the main menu - whether there are other challenges available is still up in the air. Still unknown. However, from the vids and hands-on impressions it seems that there are at least six regions: Mexico Fiji Canada Scotland China Finland Each region has four cups, and it seems that each cup is a different track within that region. For example, in the vids I've seen so far, if the player picks the Bronze Cup then Mexico, they'll end up playing a track called Greenhorn Gulch. However, if they pick the Silver Cup they'll get another track called Dusty Pass. It'd be logical to assume that Gold & Platinum Cups also have their own specific course, so that gives you at least four tracks per region, for a total of 24 tracks. It's also worth pointing out that not all of these regions are unlocked at the beginning of the game, so it's quite possible there at least one or two more regions in there. On top of that there are two difficulty levels, Excite and Super Excite. I don't think the higher difficulty will offer new courses, but it should at least make the courses on offer more challenging on repeated playthroughs. It's not going to be Gran Turismo in terms of depth, but for a launch arcade racer it looks to offer a bit more depth than expected, both in terms of control subtleties and course selection. --- "You win, I was wrong" ~ Impossible II Try ZSB: http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/gentopic.php?board=548 {åß} |

WTF. http://bd.legendarypokemon.net/index.php?subaction=showfull&id=1163227870&archive=&start_from=&ucat=& N64 VC titles not to support Rumble- chaos ensues happycat - November 11, 2006 In a shocking announcement, Nintendo has announced that the Nintendo 64 Virtual Console games will not contain the "Rumble" feature. The Rumble Pak was one of the N64's many great innovations, accentuating in-game crashes, bumps and explosions by shaking the controller. But when N64 games arrive on the Virtual Console retro downloads system on Wii, they'll lack forcefeedback support, Nintendo has confirmed to CVG in a Q&A regarding the Virtual Console. This might be due to the lack of a rumble feature in the Classic Controller, which will be the primary controller for playing Virtual Console games on Wii. But with the option to play VC games with a GameCube controller, which does feature a rumble motor, we had hoped that games would retain their pad-shaking features. Casualties are not known at this time. Personally I won't really mind the lack of rumble support, but with Gamecube controllers being able to support it (And doing so in the past with games like OoT bonus disks), it is a bit odd. No rumble!? What!? That will seriously hamper the experience of many N64 games, especially OoT. Um... Wii Sports' graphics are ass. What the hell else are they supposed to give it but a 4? It's not like it got a 1. It was an intentional artistic decision. The only thing that looks like "ass" are the Mii characters. Wii Sports isn't ugly, it would only deserve a 4 if its graphics actually failed and looked horrible in any way that affects the game. And TP does have GC graphics, games like Mario Galaxy look better. Why would Zelda deserve a 10 compared to other Wii games? Because there's more to graphics than sheer power. And we can judge Mario Galaxy when it's actually out. (It won't get a 10 for graphics, either.) I don't see why TC only merited an 8, but I'm also sick of seeing every good game getting a 9. Glad to see IGN acknowledging that an 8 game is a good game. The review and the score didn't match. The review describes a must-have even for people who owned the original, and basically says it's an awesome game, then we get 8.0. The lack of rumble will bother me for a few games... But just recently, I played through SF64 twice and loved it without rumble. OoT needs it, but that's what Master Quest and ZCE are for. The Wiimote attached to the classic controller, and the GCN controller that is supposed to work for these games, can both rumble, so I don't see why they did this when rumble worked fine in the aforementioned N64 emulations. --- "All opinions are not equal. Eh, I agree that the graphics shouldn't get less than a 5, but not for the reason that "it's intentional". That's a BS explanation. They shouldn't bell-curve the mark because they didn't want to make the Mii characters look better--and YES, it is possible to make it look better without losing customization options--but it's not like the graphics actually look horrible or take away from the gameplay. There's no reason that it should get a "failing grade". --- The ZSB: It's not about you, or me. It's about Zii. {Board 548} SPOOKAY!™, it's MacDaddy Mike! |

Artistic choice or not, why should it get higher than a 4? That means average. The beauty of its artistry is in the eye of the beholder, and the reviewer clearly thinks its slightly below average. A 4 isn't "horrible." Even simplicity can be done with better graphics, btw. Say what you want about the Miis, there could be actual little people in the baseball stands (perhaps all the Miis on your buddy list? That'd be cool) instead of big grids of white and blue. They even go out of their way to say it's not just an issue of tech, but of being generic. I'm not so sure being deliberately simple/generic counts for a good graphics score. And it's not like IGN scores are an average, so I don't see what the big deal is. And if you need help with what IGN uses to measure its scores, here you go: http://games.ign.com/ratings.html Graphics How the game looks as well as technical issues like animation quality, texture design, and framerate. That N64 stuff is pretty stupid, but the classic controller has no rumble. That's used on N64 still, right? I can't keep track of all the shifting info. Because there's more to graphics than sheer power. Um ok. Then we're back at full-on opinion, and the reviewer can give it whatever he feels, after actually playing through the game, which you haven't done. I don't remember people saying that graphics weren't about technical merit when RE4 was the best looking game on consoles. It's a mixture of art use and technical use, you can't just exclude one or the other. --- "You win, I was wrong" ~ Impossible II Try ZSB: http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/gentopic.php?board=548 {åß} |

Cool story: I played Wii today! I go into my local GS to pick up Yoshi's Island DS, and I turn to my right, to see if the Nintendo Rep had started the Wii up. I hear some really rockin' music, and the kiosk it lit up blue, so I dash over to the counter and asked if I could play. Not having a driver's license, I handed over my trusty DS instead, and got my hands on the fabled Wiimote. This thing is small! I was worried about Zelda possibly being cumbersome because of the Wiimote size, but everything is easily in reach. You guys all know how ExciteTruck works by now, but basically, you hold the Wiimote horizontally and tilt it to turn. Button 2 accelerates, I think 1 brakes, and the Up and Down on the d-pad (Left and Right horizontally) alternate boosts. I chose some level in Canada. The game is really fun, really fast, and looks pretty good. I was really getting into it, and having a blast. Awesome stuff. I had to go, though, since my dad had some stuff he needed to attend to. I'll get more time to play tomorrow when I go get FFIIIDS. Kinda disappointed I didn't get to go into the menu and play around with the pointer. It's amazing how the Wiimote is making games I wouldn't normally find fun quite entertaining. Very cool game, and I'm seriously considering getting it at launch with Zelda. --- MOTHER 3 I was watching Blue's Clues and for a single frame, it flashed "KILL ALL THE MINORITIES" -King_Zog |

Artistic choice or not, why should it get higher than a 4? That means average. Hmeh? I was always under the impression that it was scored like, academically, or whatever, with 5 being a "pass". If 5 is average, what the heck is average supposed to be? How do we guage average in a generation when graphics are, for the most part, going to all be within a small range of each other? Say Gears got a 10 in graphics, but every game released after that had a better understanding of the graphical engine of the 360 and therefore had better graphics. Wouldn't that change the average? I'm not trying to be contrary, I'm just saying, are we talking about average for a console, for a gen, or is average just some arbitrary idea that the reviewer has? --- The ZSB: It's not about you, or me. It just ain't a great looking game. I'm surprised anyone would expect a high score for this particular game in that particular area, regardless of Wii's power relative 360 or PS3. If you want to think of the score being half technical, half artistic... it falls on its face in the 5 points of technical, and isn't perfect in the artistic. It's "average" in graphics because it doesn't utilize the system's power graphically, and it's art "style" is generic in the eyes of the reviewer. It doesn't get a 1 because it's not ugly or offensive. I think you rate a game's graphics relative to the games surrounding its release. EXCITE TRUCK http://www.gamespot.com/wii/driving/excitetruck/review.html 6.8, wtf? Ultimately, Excite Truck feels more like a tech demo than a full-fledged game. The Good: Good sense of speed; hectic gameplay makes you feel just shy of losing control of the truck. The Bad: Not enough here to keep you interested for long; should have been at least a four-player game, if not online. Excite Truck's control and speed give it a good amount of potential, but there just isn't enough of a game here to keep you excited for very long. Ultimately, it feels more like a tech demo than a full-fledged game. There are presumed to be over 20 tracks in(definitely) 6 environments, that sounds meaty enough to me. I don't see why redoing races wouldn't be fun, when you enjoy the core mechanics. I wish they would have gone into exactly how many tracks and stuff there are. They also failed to mention the trophies and stuff that you get. Jeff Gerstmann on other racing games: http://gamespot.com/n64/driving/diddykongracing/review.html The foul taste left behind by Mario Kart 64 is still too fresh in my mind to accept a game as similar as [Diddy Kong Racing], even though this is a much better game than Kart 64 ever was. And he gave it a 6.6. GameSpot also gave MK64 a 6.4. I don't see why TP should lose points off of its review score for graphics unless the graphics are actually flawed. They AREN'T, in fact, everything I've seen is beautiful, and there could not possibly be a negative effect on the game as a result of graphics. And yet scores that have no complaints about gameplay drop because TP doesn't look like a PS3 game. http://wii.ign.com/articles/746/746145p1.html Call of Duty 3: 7.7/10. Call of Duty 3 for Wii is a bit of a mixed bag. For starters, the game’s control is pretty solid, and while there are a few issues with the battle actions, the pin-point aiming and Call of Duty driving feels great, adding a ton of immersion in to the game. If the gameplay isn’t your primary focus for FPS games though, Call of Duty 3 may be a bit of a downer, as there’s no multiplayer, and the visuals are pretty weak. If you’re expecting anything more than a solid single player adventure and GCN/Xbox graphics, you may be disappointed. Still, Call of Duty 3’s control is definitely something to experience, and seems to be second only to Metroid. If you’re looking to try the FPS genre on Wii during launch, Call of Duty 3 is the game to show the system off. I'm not really interested in the game anyway, thought people might like to know though. Planet GameCube is changing its name to "Nintendo World Report" (only announced on their podcast so far). Weird. Obviously they wanted to avoid another system-specific name, and they timed it with the Wii launch. --- "All opinions are not equal. ExciteTruck doesn't have great graphics, though. I wouldn't peg it a 6, but I wouldn't put it over 7-7.5. The Gerstmann factor pushes it down some. This bull**** is going to go on until people can actually accept that the Wii isn't about displaying pretty textures and smooth graphics. No, it will go on until Nintendo (and its devs) starts pushing the limits of its own hardware. This is supposedly MORE than a GameCube/XBox, so why are we getting a bunch of stuff that's right at that level? I don't see why TP should lose points off of its review score for graphics unless the graphics are actually flawed. They AREN'T, in fact, everything I've seen is beautiful, and there could not possibly be a negative effect on the game as a result of graphics. And yet scores that have no complaints about gameplay drop because TP doesn't look like a PS3 game. THAT'S BECAUSE IT'S A GAMECUBE GAME, AND IT LOOKS ****ING AMAZING FOR ONE. So if FF9 was ported to PS2 at launch, it should get a 10/10 in graphics just because it was a ****ing amazong PSone game? Obviously Wii isn't as great a graphical leap, but being a port doesn't maen it can't get some extra effects added to it. And I can already tell you some environments have rough edges, and that Link isn't that well-animated. Bam, that's good for .5-1 point depending on reviewer and review setup. I don't think anyone has said "This doesn't look like Heavenly Sword, so we're deducting." Even by Wii standards, Zelda ain't cutting it. Unless you seriously think Wii is exactly as powerful as GameCube. I really don't know how you fail to see this, when you yourself keep saying it's a Cube game. CoD3 is definitely in the 7 range in graphics. You should give it a look, though (watch the trailer at least), it uses the Wiimote in a lot of ways I didn't expect. Moreso than Red Steel, I think, sans the swordplay. --- "You win, I was wrong" ~ Impossible II Try ZSB: http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/gentopic.php?board=548 {åß} |

Let's shift further discussion here: http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs9/genmessage.php?board=548&topic=31774634 You can quote what I said to you in this topic, in that one, if you'd like. I have to say that I strongly disagree with Jeff's review. I've played a couple of hours of Excite Truck, including a good bit of both single-player and multi, and I think it's a ridiculously fun racer in short bursts. No, I wouldn't play it for hours at a time like some people might play Gran Turismo. But then, I can't play Burnout Revenge for very long, either, and I think Excite Truck has a lot in common with Burnout in terms of how the racing feels. It's inexcusable that two-player mode doesn't have AI racers, but it is still really, really fun if you have a couple of players who are fairly close in skill level. As for single-player, there are a couple dozen tracks with tons of shortcuts and alternate paths, seven trucks to unlock, numerous achievements for doing insane stunts, two difficulty modes, and three non-racing challenge modes with multiple levels in each. You could easily get ten or fifteen hours of gameplay out of that package. The main complaint I have about the game is not lack of content but the crappyy soundtrack. Yea, I'm getting this game. Even Gerstamann gave it an 8 in Tilt, it was just dragged down by crap music (fixable), weak graphics (so what), and his unreasonable multiplayer desires (beyond having no CPUs in two player, wtf?). I don't plan on getting more than 2 Wiimotes, and this guy describes a nice meaty single player. And from my playtime, it's obvious to me that this'll be fun to pick up now and then for years, just like Crazy Taxi and Hydro Thunder. --- "You win, I was wrong" ~ Impossible II Try ZSB: http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/gentopic.php?board=548 {åß} |

I'm not an expert on the genre, but do people generally buy Arcade-y racers for multiplayer? Sure, I would understand two-player, no-online multiplayer being **** for a game that relies on that stuff like Mario Kart, but I've barely even played F-Zero multiplayer. --- "All opinions are not equal. I dunno, I always played stuff like Hydro Thunder and Cruis'n USA with one other person. I haven't really paid attention to any progress in the genre (if there's been any, outside Burnout I guess) enough to know how much of a complaint it could be. I had splitting a screen four ways, so I had no intention of getting 4 people on ET. Online would've been nice, but I don't know why anyone expects that from Nintendo when they suck at it. I guess they deserve to be consistently marked down for it until they get with the program. No bots in multiplayer is just stupid, but I think I'll live. I was buying it for a single player (where everyone in the room is watching) sort of game anyway, so **** it. --- "You win, I was wrong" ~ Impossible II Try ZSB: http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/gentopic.php?board=548 {åß} |

If you want a game that's roughly as entertaining for people watching as people playing, wait for Wario Ware. Actually, I think that has single-remote multiplayer where you pass it around, as do some Wii Sports games. --- "All opinions are not equal. That's a little too energetic for my tastes, and I got burned on Touched. I have enough on my list this year without taking a chance on that, I think. But it's on my radar. Is it even a 2006 release in the US? Monkey Ball is going to be my multiplayer game, but my mom wants to get me some **** for Christmas so I'm going to let her cover that, another controller, a nunchuk, and Elebits. I'll stick with Zelda and ET in the meantime, I doubt I'll have time for much more with the semester coming to a close. --- "You win, I was wrong" ~ Impossible II Try ZSB: http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/gentopic.php?board=548 {åß} |
