I've never played F-Zero multiplayer because it's too much to keep track of on a split-screen, but it still works well as a pass around single-player game. I've played it with two other friends where we would simply pass the controller around in between races, missions, or whatever it was we were going through at the time, and it was as fun or more than what I imagine the multiplayer to be like. --- The ZSB: It's not about you, or me. Maybe I don't have many friends but none of them get the racing games I do. So if and when we get together I usually just dominate them and it's no fun for anyone. It'd be better online where you could match up skill levels. And yeah, like Mac said, split screen sucks, esp. for FZGX where everything is so fast. --- Marcus and I even go to the same barber, although I have a slightly better haircut. |

Only other "racing" game I play that isn't a kart-racer would be the Burnout games, and only for the crash modes. It's the same thing with F-Zero, where you trade back and forth between your friends while working towards a common goal, such as breaking the high score for damage. --- The ZSB: It's not about you, or me. Picked up FFIIIDS, Red Steel, and Rayman Raving Rabbids today. Yeah, Red Steel looks like it does in the pictures, so I won't go into that. Rayman has an all blue disc with a yellow logo. Manual just kinda describes the places and characters in the game. All in black and white. Does Ubisoft ever have color manuals? Something that bugs me. I'm going to be looking at manuals more and more with the Wii, and they could at least look nice. At least Nintendo's are always nice. Played ExciteTruck again. Graphics really do look like a GCN game, but the game is still awesome. Music is kinda bad (overexaggerated guitars... yuck), though. The game just requires small tilts of the Wiimote. You're more trying to maintain control of your truck than move it. I also got to play around in the Wii menu. Very odd. The pointer seems to move more in accordance to relative space... or something. I guess the Wiimote goes into sleep mode when it hasn't been used for a while. When the GS guy gave me the Wiimote, and I pressed a button, it made a noise through the speaker and rumbled. Nice. I'm getting more excited for the Wii by the day. --- MOTHER 3 I was watching Blue's Clues and for a single frame, it flashed "KILL ALL THE MINORITIES" -King_Zog |

EA and Sega do black and white manuals too. Really disappoints me too. I always read instruction manuals cover to cover for most games. Electroplankton and the WarioWare games have excellent, innovative manuals that match the game. Anyone ever play Uniracers? That manual was ridiculously awesome. Sega's been doing black and white for like 15 years now. 3 new IGN reviews, the CoD3 one might have been posted? Call of Duty 3 7.7 http://wii.ign.com/articles/746/746145p1.html Closing Comments Call of Duty 3 for Wii is a bit of a mixed bag. For starters, the game’s control is pretty solid, and while there are a few issues with the battle actions, the pin-point aiming and Call of Duty driving feels great, adding a ton of immersion in to the game. If the gameplay isn’t your primary focus for FPS games though, Call of Duty 3 may be a bit of a downer, as there’s no multiplayer, and the visuals are pretty weak. If you’re expecting anything more than a solid single player adventure and GCN/Xbox graphics, you may be disappointed. Still, Call of Duty 3’s control is definitely something to experience, and seems to be second only to Metroid. If you’re looking to try the FPS genre on Wii during launch, Call of Duty 3 is the game to show the system off. Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam 7.0 http://wii.ign.com/articles/746/746341p1.html Closing Comments It may be a bit flawed, but Tony Hawk’s Downhill Jam still shaped up to be a pretty entertaining racer on Wii. In no way does the spin-off game stand up to Project 8 on the other next generation consoles, but as a “popcorn flick” equivalent to Hawk games, Downhill Jam is a decently entertaining and innovative game nonetheless. A somewhat dated graphical look hurts, though the game runs in 480p and 16:9 to counteract it. And while in-game music is a hassle to work with, there are some killer songs in the 40 track list. The stylistic look of the game is going to be hit or miss for gamers, and whether you love it or hate it, your opinion is justified. Tony Hawk’s Downhill Jam is an odd game, but it still can be a blast to play, and the replay value goes up a ton when you throw a few more Wii-motes into the mix. A redesign for a franchise is always risky business, and while there are definitely things to change in a potential sequel, Tony Hawk’s Downhill Jam is a solid first step in a new direction for Wii players. More control customization and higher production value is definitely needed, though the game is conceptually sound and still pretty fun in short bursts. EXCITE TRUCK WHOAMG 8.0 http://wii.ign.com/articles/746/746278p1.html Closing Comments I'm more of a Burnout and San Francisco Rush fan than a Gran Turismo and Forza gamer, and Excite Truck for Wii is definitely right up my alley.Excite Truck is clearly a first generation console game that will, without a doubt be outdone in the Wii system's later years. But as a game that bursts right out of the gate as a launch title for the system, Excite Truck is a fulfilling, fun, energetic arcade-style racer that features a good balance of technology and technique. There are a few spots in places that could have been filled, like its weak two player option and trick system, but overall this game definitely pulls off the intense racing rush that quality arcade racers offer. --- "You win, I was wrong" ~ Impossible II Try ZSB: http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/gentopic.php?board=548 {åß} |

Wii Press release: NINTENDO'S WII: A GATEWAY TO NEW EXPERIENCES Associated Press, Weathernews Provide Wii Menu Content REDMOND, Wash., Nov. 16, 2006 - Nintendo's new Wii™ video game system not only changes how people play games, but redefines how they interact with both the system and their televisions. With the Wii Menu, Nintendo offers a gateway to new experiences through a collection of interactive channels people can use to customize their gaming and entertainment options. The Wii Menu serves as the main portal to the different functions of Wii, and is designed to evolve throughout the life of the system. Some functions can be used right out of the box and more will roll out during the next few weeks and into next year, with content continually changing over time. Wii goes on sale in the Americas Nov. 19 at an MSRP of $249.99. ... ...But some of the real fun with the Wii Menu comes with customization. The Mii™ Channel lets users create caricatures of themselves (or anyone else) that can be used first in Wii Sports™, a collection of five sports games packed in with the Wii system. Up to 10 Mii characters can be stored in a single Wii Remote, and players can carry them to a friend's house and populate multiple Wii systems. ... The Wii Shop Channel serves as Wii's online storefront, where visitors can redeem Wii Points™ to download games or other items. Users need a high-speed Internet connection to access the Wii Shop Channel and choose from at least 12 classic Virtual Console™ games that will be ready to play on launch day. Some of the games a player can download include: Donkey Kong® (NES®), based on the arcade game of the same name; SimCity® (SNES™), where players get to build a city from the ground up, being responsible for each decision they make; Super Mario 64®, the first-ever true 3-D game, which changed the face of gaming forever; Sonic the Hedgehog® (Genesis®), the fastest blue hedgehog on Earth whips through hair-raising loop-de-loops and into dizzying dives; and Bomberman® '93 (TurboGrafx16™), the exciting, powered-up version that followed the original Bomberman®. More Virtual Console games will become available weekly every Monday following launch and by year's end, gamers will be able to pick from a library of 30 or more classic games from the Nintendo Entertainment System®, Super NES®, Nintendo® 64, Sega Genesis™ and TurboGrafx16 consoles. Users buy Wii Points at retail or with a credit card in the Wii Shop Channel and redeem their Wii Points to download the classic games. NES games start at 500 Wii Points, Super NES games start at 800 Wii Points and Nintendo 64 games start at 1,000 Wii Points. Sega Genesis games start at 800 Wii Points and TurboGrafx16 games start at 600 Wii Points. ... On Dec. 20, Nintendo will roll out the Forecast Channel. Users will be able to access free local weather information, which is continually updated. Users can access worldwide weather information by browsing a 3-D globe. Weather information will be supplied by Weathernews. A high-speed Internet connection is required to access the Forecast Channel. Then on Jan. 27, the Wii Menu News Channel will make headlines with the latest news from around the world provided by the Associated Press. A high-speed Internet connection is also needed to access the News Channel. For more information about Wii and the Wii Menu, visit Wii.com. This fat moron roommate of mine. A preface: He's got a major sense of entitlement, loves using other people's stuff, assuming he can do this and that, and phrasing questions in tricky ways to get you to agree to let him do things instead of just asking you properly. I'll provide examples if necessary. In any case, I've been telling him I'm iffy on getting a Wii, because if he knew I was getting one at launch he'd already have a bunch of plans for playing it and I don't want to have to crush a fantasy that's grown up for weeks. Easier to break it to him 5 minutes after he sees me set it up. C: so are you gonna get a wii before chrismas AV: i might C: what? do you mean you're moving away from it or towards it AV: im leaning towards getting it before christmas C: what games would you get? AV: excite truck and zelda C: you can use SD cards to save game sright? AV: yea C: oh cool, so i could use an SD card to play zelda and then move it to my wii when i got it, right? AV: ...you're not gonna spend 50 hours on zelda on my wii C: oh no, i'd just try it out (as if that makes sense, why would you need to save?) AV: you can try it out, but there arent going to be any lengthy play sessions C: oh yea of course. i didnt do that with okami, remember? AV: you played that game almost as much as i did C: no i didnt AV: yes you did. your gametime was like 7 and a half hours, mine was like 9 C: that's weird cuz blahblabhbalh about where he is in the game and how I'm further and have more weapons AV: okay end --- "You win, I was wrong" ~ Impossible II Try ZSB: http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/gentopic.php?board=548 {åß} |

RAYMAN 8.3 http://wii.ign.com/articles/746/746378p1.html Closing Comments Rayman Raving Rabbids is a gamble for Ubisoft because it is so dramatically different from its predecessors. It's not a platformer, but don't let that deter you because it is still easily one of the better games available for Nintendo's new generation system this year. Ubisoft understands that Wii is about new ways to play and it has with Rabbids created a title that utilizes the Wii remote 70 times over. The majority of minis in the title are fun whether you're playing by yourself or with friends, although there are the occasional duds. The biggest drawback is that many of the minis are not designed for simultaneous play; instead you go in sequence. But even with that being true the experience is still engaging and addictive and the title's sense of humor is in a league of its own. It is almost unfair to label this effort a Rayman game because the real stars of the project are the bunnies, whose blank faces and inevitable agonized screams will make you laugh over and over again. --- "You win, I was wrong" ~ Impossible II Try ZSB: http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/gentopic.php?board=548 {åß} |

I knew RRR was going to be great. But it's going to be hard to decide between it and SMB if they have similar scores... Trauma Center: 8.0/10 http://www.gamespot.com/wii/adventure/traumacentersecondopinion/review.html?sid=6161923 Same score from IGN and GS, a rarity. I think that means IGN underrated it, but the GS score is expected. Difficulty whining, yay! Trauma Center again: 9/10 http://gamesradar.com/us/wii/game/reviews/article.jsp?articleId=20061115154833619050§ionId=1000 It's just like medical insurance - you've got to have it The new character's story sounds cool, although it's a shame that it's just got a few operations in it. They way they set it out, having you unlock each part of it interspersed with the main story, sounds pretty clever. Of course, Derek's story is meant to have new operations as well, so there's a decent amount of new content, and I can't imagine even the core gameplay will feel like the DS version. And hey, the "erratic difficulty" and "hellishly unfair GUILT" are back from Under the Knife, that's wonderful news. Yes, the five to seven of us can really make a difference! Whoops, I already read the review... :-/ Can't hurt to go back then. Gameplay 5 Graphics 6 Sound 7 Value 6 Tilt 5 The Good: Interesting take on first-person shooter controls; nice explosions and destructible environments. The Bad: Clunky sword-fighting sequences slapped into the middle of all the shooting; inane story chock-full of painful dialogue and voice acting; numerous noticeable bugs and glitches. Red Steel isn't completely devoid of merit, but it's a half-baked, buggy game that feels rushed and poorly executed. There's a good concept in here somewhere, as a swords-and-guns shooter pitting you against yakuza villains certainly seems like it could be very exciting. However, the experience itself hardly fulfills any of the promises behind it. So if you're looking for an exciting new way to simulate gunning or cutting lots of dudes down using the Wii Remote, you'd best keep looking. Summary of the review: 1) Crappy story; there are unskippable cutscenes that you'll have to rewatch sometimes if you restart a tough sequence; bad/unintentionally funny dialogue 2) Controls seem pretty good; they don't list many complaints but don't seem very positive either, just saying they "have the potential to be a good fit for a better game" but "don't wind up feeling particularly immersive, let alone superior to the conventional first-person shooter controls found on other consoles or the PC" 3) Brain-dead AI + health regeneration = easy game 4) Swordfighting sucks - no blood (lol more like Clean Steel m i rite?), clunky controls, scripted swordfighting is annoying 5) No difficulty settings but decent progression; 10-hour single player; unexciting split-screen but no co-op or online 6) "If you're hoping that Red Steel's presentation quality helps make up for its middling gameplay, you should stop. Red Steel might have looked pretty good for the time, had it been released a few years ago. But between all the bland, blurry textures, the sluggish frame rate, and the plain-looking weapons and characters, it's decidedly below par by today's standards." 7) Plenty of bugs + glitches 8) Good audio except for voice acting --- XBL Gamertag: XCTarantula | Games: Test Drive Unlimited, Saint's Row And yet he complained that his belly was not full... |

Yes, the five to seven of us can really make a difference! That's not the point. Unless I'm the only person on earth who is never going to GameSpot again. Maybe we should have a single ZSBer volunteer to post GS stuff in a topic here, so the rest of us never need to touch that vile excuse for a site again. They don't deserve the hits. And Jeff Gerstmann is possibly an even worse reviewer than the horrendous ones EGM have (and EGM's score for TP is a 10 now anyway, I think, because they share with 1UP). Now, hold on. 6 for graphics. What the... ****. So, basically, we can never take a single GameSpot review into account again, because they're going to pull this **** with every Wii game. 6 for the Wii's best looking launch game would suggest that they're comparing it to the PS3 and 360. 6) "If you're hoping that Red Steel's presentation quality helps make up for its middling gameplay, you should stop. I would hope they're not comparing the graphics to Xbox 360, of course, because that could get completely out of hand. They don't actually say they're comparing it to Wii games or assumed capabilities based on the Xbox/GCN, but, well, they must be. BTW, Twilight Princess got a 9 out of 10 graphically (and that's what most review outlets are now calling Wii's best-looking launch title). --- XBL Gamertag: XCTarantula | Games: Test Drive Unlimited, Saint's Row And yet he complained that his belly was not full... |

Red Steel also got a 5 from 1UP. It seems like it sucks not because of the controls, but because it's simply a bad FPS. Which is actually exactly what I was scared would happen, especially to Red Steel, but in general: Games being so focused on how they use the Wiimote to change the genre that the game itself does absolutely nothing good for it, and ultimate ends up pretty lackluster. Ubi Soft wouldn't have focused on the overall game quality the way the developers of Resistance did. Gerstmann give Tony Hawk a 6.0. Not going to link to it. IGN gave it a 7. Are GameSpot ever going to give a decent score to a Wii game, or are they going to be consistently lower even more than they were with the DS? They can't ACTUALLY think they have a hope in arguing that 8.8 was an appropriate score for a game with a 97% average, making it one of the best games ever. --- "All opinions are not equal. Well... we're all huge fans of Zelda, and so are almost all of the reviewers, but Gerstmann was reviewing it a little differently. He really gave the game more of a comparison to today's games, and honestly, the Zelda formula is still amazing for all of us and always will be, but there are aspects of it that do feel dated. So the game could easily be an 8.8 for him and a 9.9 for us Zelda fanboys, because we adore the same trademark aspects of the series that he finds outdated. --- XBL Gamertag: XCTarantula | Games: Test Drive Unlimited, Saint's Row And yet he complained that his belly was not full... |

Shocking really. The finest of the fanboys in my town are now enjoying their Wiis. Pretty cool, although I'm oddly really not that jealous for some reason. 0_o --- XBL Gamertag: XCTarantula | Games: Test Drive Unlimited, Saint's Row And yet he complained that his belly was not full... |

'Tis one beautiful piece of machinery. I ran out of walmart screaming wii like a little girl, and I am not embarrassed by it at all. My friends got Red Steel around 8 at Gamestop, and they were drooling over it. They refused to sell Zelda though, they saved that until midnight. My Wii must wait though, I have work to do before I can even Touch it. But, i'd love to point out a very important fact: Nintendo Fanboys > Sony fanboys. I made about 20 new friends in about 2 days. Freaking awesome. --- LOL you deserve to be grounded for whacking off to a video game.~ tln Five-Hundred and Forty Eight. |

What if one of us were to play TP and find the Wiimote control feels tacked on after a while (having to move it repeatedly to get through most enemies)? What if the Wiimote speaker's sound effects chop up or are distracting? What if many of the puzzles are unclear? Even though much of Gamespot's criticism seems cheap (no voice acting, no orchestrated music, too much like OoT, not next-gen graphics), other points sound like actual problems with the game, or things that could easily be considered problems by some. If a reviewer sees that, there's no reason he shouldn't note that or give the game a score higher than he feels is right just because many other reviewers don't have that problem. That he took off 1.2 points rather than 0.5 or 0.1 or 0.9 is kind of beside the point. Some Zelda fans seem to care more about how the game does on Gamerankings than how good it is. --- The Scientist knows. "Look around you. Just look around you. What if one of us were to play TP and find the Wiimote control feels tacked on after a while (having to move it repeatedly to get through most enemies)? What if the Wiimote speaker's sound effects chop up or are distracting? I really don't think either of those are likely, from what I've read in most reviews. The speaker seems to almost entirely be a great addition, regardless of sound quality. And if the controls were that bad or tacked on we wouldn't be seeing many 10/10 scores. My only real concern anymore is difficulty. I don't want to be dying, I just want to feel challenged, like if I don't play really skilfully I could lose. In the very least it seems that boss fights aren't like this, especially if you can win one of the final fights without getting hit. --- "All opinions are not equal. You don't think that'll happen? The Nintendo World Report (god, what a crappy rename and ugly redesign for what was once my favorite gaming site) review that you linked to on NGG mentioned problems with the remote's sensitivity for sword slashing at times, and numerous previews/reviews have mentioned occasional syncing problems between the remote speaker and the Wii (as a hardware problem). --- XBL Gamertag: XCTarantula | Games: Test Drive Unlimited, Saint's Row And yet he complained that his belly was not full... |

That he took off 1.2 points rather than 0.5 or 0.1 or 0.9 is kind of beside the point. Some Zelda fans seem to care more about how the game does on Gamerankings than how good it is. *Cue wall of text* The problem isn't just the score which he seems to be the only person on earth to think it deserves, it's that the reasons for the score are awful. A 7 for sound because there's no voice-acting, like in every other Zelda game, and because the music is done how it SHOULD be instead of being ruined by complete orchestrations that prevent it from changing? And since when the **** are most games held to that standard anyway? Games are rarely faulted for not having orchestrated music. Not to mention that he says they should have had it because of all the space on the Wii disc, but it's completely stupid it fault it like that when it was always intended to be identical on the GCN and GameCube, and a huge addition like that wouldn't make sense. And would destroy the necessary dynamic music. Then there's an 8 in gameplay, but a 10 in tilt? And he's the ONLY reviewer to lower points for difficulty using the Wiimote controls properly, probably because he's a lazy fatass. He calls the graphics dated, which is stupid, because it somehow suggests that the graphics would look better on the GCN. There's nothing "dated" about them, they just aren't up to next-gen power. He gives it an 8.8, even though the only "Bad" things pointed out seem relatively minor. And he pretty much lied about the game length, maybe he skipped cutscenes or something. He says it's possible to get through the game without dying... And yet, that doesn't actually mean he did so. Most likely he's just covering up for his own deaths by saying someone skilled COULD beat it without dying without too much difficulty. Er, just like every other 3D Zelda? And he complains that it feels unoriginal and rehashed from older Zeldas, something I could probably find a bunch of review quotes from other sites to contradict. It's not the GameRankings average that concerns me, since TP is likely to get another 30 reviews and GameSpot's won't really affect it. It's just the entire way the review was written and the reasons behind the score, and the fact that people can now use it to justify saying TP flopped or is worse because of the Wii. And why did he include spoilers in his review, and even in childish e-mails to people who criticised him? It's almost as bad as the guy on the IGN boards, and is appalling to see from one of the most prominent gaming media sites. Not that I ever expect journalistic integrity from Jeff "I reviewed Jungle Beat without finishing it" Gerstmann. --- "All opinions are not equal. Wii games also probably shouldn't be blamed for the limitations of the hardware. *looks at most of GameSpot's reviews* It's going to be hilarious when people try to say GS are unbiased if they consistently give every Wii game one of the lowest scores it gets. --- "All opinions are not equal. From my play experience, sword combos are a bit sticky to start (you have to swing fast), and the sound quality on the Wiimote speaker... Eh... Unfortunately, your sword in the game does not make any noise. The Wiimote supplies it. And aiming with the Slingshot and Boomerang is way too much fun with the Wii. he's the ONLY reviewer to lower points for difficulty using the Wiimote controls properly, probably because he's a lazy fatass. Nintendo World Report (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/reviewArt.cfm?artid=12434): "Slashing with the Wii Remote arguably does add an immersive feel to swordplay, but the reduced responsiveness is not a valid tradeoff. The problem is that it takes too much force to activate sword attacks, and this setting cannot be adjusted. I'm not complaining out of laziness; there were instances when I had to make the sword motion two or three times before it would register. This lack of dependability screws up your timing in combat and absolutely leads to some damage being taken that otherwise would not be. It's not a critical issue because the game is usually forgiving in combat situations, but when I try to draw my sword and it doesn't happen, that has the reverse effect of destroying my immersion in the game and forcing me to think about the controls and why they aren't working." (Just because they didn't take off points doesn't mean it wasn't a problem; they're Zelda fanboys like us - no WAY they're going to give it anything lower than a 10.) He calls the graphics dated, which is stupid, because it somehow suggests that the graphics would look better on the GCN. There's nothing "dated" about them, they just aren't up to next-gen power. Penny-Arcade (http://www.penny-arcade.com/2006/11/13): "The game doesn't look very good. I don’t just mean it doesn’t look like Gears of War either, I mean it doesn’t even look good for a GC game and let’s be honest here that’s what we’re talking about. I’ve seen beautiful games on the Cube. Crystal Chronicles, Wind Waker and Resident Evil 4 were all incredible looking games. Twilight Princess can’t really compare to any of them." --- XBL Gamertag: XCTarantula | Games: Test Drive Unlimited, Saint's Row And yet he complained that his belly was not full... |

And he complains that it feels unoriginal and rehashed from older Zeldas, something I could probably find a bunch of review quotes from other sites to contradict. Um, Zelda: Twilight Princess is a Zelda game through and through. Every single review I've ever read says this is Ocarina of Time, only bigger and better. So YES, if you're not so crazy about the Zelda formula anymore (and Gerstmann obviously isn't), it's going to feel unoriginal and rehashed. Again, what's a 9.9 for us is an 8.8 for Gerstmann because what we find quaint, he finds obsolete. Not to mention that he says they should have had it because of all the space on the Wii disc, but it's completely stupid it fault it like that when it was always intended to be identical on the GCN and GameCube, and a huge addition like that wouldn't make sense. And would destroy the necessary dynamic music. He's rating a Wii game on the Wii - as such, he should compare its capabilities to those of the Wii. I've seen many of your posts where you claim reviewers are unfairly comparing Wii's graphics to Xbox 360 games (which, if it were happening, would indeed be unfair) - why, then, should we compare Wii's capabilities to GameCube's and decide that since the GCN version can't handle orchestrated music, there's no need for it in the Wii version? And come on, I'm sure there's a way to have mostly orchestrated tracks and still have dynamic music. He probably finished in about 50 or 55 hours and decided that more skilled Zelda players would finish faster. It's not really that bad - he didn't fault the game for its length at all, nor for the difficulty. --- XBL Gamertag: XCTarantula | Games: Test Drive Unlimited, Saint's Row And yet he complained that his belly was not full... |
