I'm watching through The Big O. It's really quite good, and much better
than I thought it was given the bits I caught on Cartoon Network. I
enjoy the art style a lot; it has a lot of vibes of things like Batman:
The Animated Series and is generally very stylized in ways I enjoy. I'm
watching it with the Japanese dub, but the English dub is quite good
too, especially the guy who voices Roger Smith (he also does Spike in
Cowboy Bebop and is probably the main reason people prefer the dub to
the sub for that show). --- "The world is a sphere. That means that the east is connected to the west, and the north is connected to the south." ~Enrique, Skies of Arcadia |

Never buy anime off ebay. Correction. Never buy anime off ebay if you can't tell the difference between what looks like it's probably legit and the real thing, and a seller who is obviously selling fake. Seriously, it's not that hard. Oh good, someone else is reading Mirai Nikki. It surely needs to be
animated, but I'm not convinced there's enough material out yet for
even a 13-episode series, and I really don't want to see them improvise
an ending. The Big O was great for its first 13 episodes. I've watched 14 through 16, and they're like three times better. If all you saw was all or part of the initial run on Cartoon Network, and you enjoyed it even a little, you owe it to yourself to watch the entire thing. --- "The world is a sphere. The robotic cat travels back in time from the 22nd century and uses gadgets such as a "time machine" and an "anywhere door" that come out of a fourth-dimensional pocket on his stomach to help his friends, allowing them to travel anywhere and to any time they wish. That Soul Eater trailer really isn't doing anything for me. Sorry. It looks like a translation patch for Umineko no Naku Koro ni is in the works. I finally got around to starting Death Note, which is kind of
significant because Death Note is practically the only manga (or close
to it) I've ever read a decent amount of... Before quitting later on,
due to a combination of boredom from the story being less interesting
and confusion from having no idea what the hell was going on anymore. I
liked the battle of wits between Light and L, so that's what I'm
watching it for now. I don't exactly remember Light being so immediately evil in the manga. I'm probably just remembering wrong because it was a while ago, but it's only been one episode and he already sounds so vicious and corrupt. I remembered him having a twisted sense of justice, and that's about it. It must be in his voice... Especially when he decides to become God. --- 'All opinions are not equal. And there's really no reason why you wouldn't like the first season
[of Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei], unless you're dead on the inside. You weren't kidding, wow. The entire concept of two characters who each see everything solely in either a positive or negative light is just so perfect that I refuse to accept it wasn't already done by someone else. In any case, the way it's contrasted here is awesome... It was mostly in the first couple of episodes that they played off that constantly, but now that I'm past the character introductions, hopefully there will be a lot more of it. I haven't seen much of Kafuka (don't hate me, mods) and Nozomu giving their very different perspectives on the same thing in the last few episodes I watched, but it's hilarious when it does happen. Whether that's Kafuka turning something terrible like stalking (that was probably my favourite episode so far) into something light-hearted and hilarious, or Nozomu depressing something perfectly good and innocent. Both at the same time is preferable, though. It's weird that I can't seem to draw myself away from the opening, even though I pretty much always skip them on other shows. --- 'All opinions are not equal. I'm glad you enjoy Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, Impossible, though
it's too bad you have no soul. Do you have your volume turned up to max
and your earbuds attached directly to your eardrums or something? You
can't appreciate the humor of "What's Up People?!" if the song is
deafening you with its loudness, and it is admittedly a pretty loud
song. I read bout 100 chapters of One Piece, but I simply couldn't keep going. I thought a pirate theme would be cool, but in the end it's no different than Generic Shonen #25. Bleach had potential, but they turned it into Generic Shonen #32 in the Soul Society arc. Naruto seems like it has the most hope of not constantly being in the gutter, but even it doesn't do too well. I stuck with Bleach pretty far in the hopes that it would get better than Generic Shonen $32 (through the Soul Society arc and partway into the Heuco Mundo (sp) arc), but it never did, though it's got enough style that it's just barely worth reading, I think. I haven't read Naruto in a while, so I can only hope it suddenly got much better. I'll probably catch up on Bleach and Naruto in one big jump sum soon, maybe even today. --- "The world is a sphere. Yeah, One Piece isn't for everyone. However, I love it. I think the
thing I like most about it is Oda's storytelling and ability to make
people really feel for the characters (he's also pretty great at
foreshadowing and tying up those loose ends). I've gotta give props to
anyone who can get people to tear up/cry about a whale or a ship. Not
to mention, with his SBS, he's probably one of the funniest artists
I've read works of. Haha, I'll truly be sad when the series ends. --- Fall was always left in your eyes / just a fleck of yellow light / like the sunrise, like the twilight -- "Weeping Willow," The Hush Sound |

The first episode of The Tower of DRUAGA -the Aegis of URUK- is out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-vgQ6WJ8zhQ&fmt=6 What makes this cool (and also perfectly legal to link to) is that Gonzo itself is not only putting this on streaming sites but also providing the subs. It's also going to be doing the same thing with Blassreiter this season, though the first episode of that hasn't come out yet. This is ostensibly as a response to the idea that anime companies need a more proactive answer to fansubbing than just cease and desist letters: in some sense, what better answer than to beat them at their own game? Fairly accurate subs (accurate enough that I didn't notice any inaccuracies with my limited Jpanese knowledge) out as soon as the anime airs, making it both higher quality and faster than speed subs. The show itself seems like it'll be pretty good. Even if you're not sure you like the setting, the first episode is definitely worth watching through to the end for comedic value. --- "The world is a sphere. Damn, that's a good idea. It's what I've been saying American
companies need to do with their shows if they don't want people
illegally downloading them. (Especially people from other countries who
would have to wait months to get the US episodes.) That entire episode was ****ing pointless and hilarious. Is the entire thing going to be like that, or is it actually a serious anime? I know a several American companies have made alliances with/put
money into the site Crunchyroll, apparently in an attempt to get people
watching current-season videos, whetting appetite to buy DVDs [at which
point they'll pull the subs, of course]. It's an interesting idea. The anime business [in America especially] is being hit especially hard by fansubbing, and by getting in on the industry [and thus subsuming it the best they can] they can probably cut off a decent number of pirates from their copywrited anime. They can't really stop torrents yet, but not everyone on Crunchyroll etc is going to make an automatic leap to isohunt either. --- {Board 548} What is there left to say?{εί} |

How many of these new shows are about motorcycles, anyway? Is this some new fad in Japan? I love how Tower of Druaga had an awesome episode making fun of fantasy and RPG cliches, only to degenerate into those exact cliches in the second episode. There's no ****ing way they can be THAT DENSE. I'm fine with a serious plot, and it's still interesting enough that I'll keep watching for a little while, but why not either make an extreme attempt to avoid looking like hypocrites, by having unique characters and avoiding cliches, or just continue the self-parody to a lesser extent? They can maintain a serious story with a sense of humour, and that kind of seems like the only way they can not look like idiots after pointing out how cliched the show would be before it even started. And at least that would be more original, rather than another generic fantasy anime. --- 'All opinions are not equal.
