Inuyasha is finished as of chapter 558. I'd read like the first 60 chapters or so, but the "more of the same" aura the series was giving off made me quit. I took the liberty of reading the last two chapters of the manga, but they're really not very good.

One Piece is freaking awesome.

Yes!! It's the only series that constantly touches me and makes me actually "lol" a lot. Even if I didn't like the series as much as I do, Oda's SBS sections are priceless.

Some copypasta, but I'm lovin' this stuff. <3 It's gonna be a great chapter, can't waiiit.

It depends on what you'd consider [super] long-running, but I'm pretty easy to please, hahaha, so I end up liking a lot of series that run (/still running) to a pretty decent size. But probably my favorite shonen series are Hunter x Hunter and One Piece.

But atm, I'm really only making the effort to keep up with One Piece. Even more so since I've actually caught up with the comic. Oda's introducing (and reintroducing) a whirlwind of interesting characters and stuff all over the place. It's pretty exciting. Even fans of the series who I know weren't terribly caught up in it before are saying this arc is making even them anxious for the new chapters, whoo.

I'll probably even check the animation out (last time I watched was for Brook <3) when Law gets in the picture, if only to see if he gets even more badass by having a badass VA.

Backtracking b/c I've not been online b/c my comp died.....

I'd seen R&G are Dead before I saw Haruhi. There are other really appropriate references of the like too; what really caught my eye was when Yuki was reading The Fall of Hyperion by Dan Simmons [it's the book she gives to Kyon] which is chock full of time travel, AIs, evolved Gods, and literary references [ie, just like the show]. Looking through a list of Yuki's other books is rather amusing/enlightening.

Epic manga releases this week. One Piece has the start of a war between Luffy/Kidd/Law and an Admiral, Bleach has the Shinigami-turned-Hollows out to fight Aizen's men, and I guess Naruto was more touching than epic, but still pretty decent.

Well, The Tower of Druaga's ending was somewhat WTF-worthy. I guess they weren't sure if they were going to be able to continue it or not, so they allowed for both, making things a bit misleading. But if we have to wait until 2009 to get another 12 episodes, that kind of sucks. And now I feel bad about the people who died, since there actually will be a continuation without them.

I had never heard of gekiga before, actually. But from how Wikipedia makes it sound, I probably wouldn't like it any more than the adult oriented graphic novels that are out there, the ones that happen in the real world and are basically about someone's depressing life. I guess not all of them are depressing, but still kinda boring.

As for manga in general, I don't like the ones that get gory like Berserk or Gantz. The story lines can get more interesting in those sometimes, and I would actually like to read Gantz or Deadman Wonderland, but there are parts in them that I just find unsettling and don't really want any part of.

Chocolate Underground - Apparently, in the future chocolate has been banned because it's not healthy. This of course leads to bootlegging, the so-called "Chocolate Underground". Except that the plot's not going anywhere. Episodes are only five minutes long, yet somehow nothing useful managed to happen in the first one.

Sekirei - This is a horrible show. It's one of those "fighting/fanservice" deals, where scantily clad women with incredible fighting technique duel each other, naturally destroying a lot of clothing in the process. I didn't know that going into it, but about five minutes into the episode I knew I was in for something horrible. I kept hoping maybe the episode would get better, but no, it's horrible the whole way through. Seriously, avoid it; let my sacrifice help you.

Slayers Revolution - It's a new season of Slayers! The animation quality is a little low, but it's a new season of Slayers! If you enjoyed any of the other ones, you'll probably enjoy this; all the fast-paced, silly humor is still there, Lina is just as foul-mouthed as ever, and Gourry is still the perfect foil for Lina. Everything clicks, and even a low animation budget can't stop this from being strong.

Strike Witches - Another entry into the "young girls who double as aircraft" genre (started by Sky Girls), this seems to be a little better than Sky Girls, but not by much. It's also Gonzo's latest streaming project (following last season's The Tower of Druaga and Blassreiter), so you can get it subbed for free on YouTube, which is a pretty cool deal.

Telepathy Shoujo Ran - Two girls with psychic powers team up to solve mysteries. Or at least, that's what official descriptions bill this as. So far, it's been pretty dark. The lead character, Ran, is just awakening to her telepathic abilities, which is simultaneously putting a lot of strain on her mentally and alienating her from her friends and schoolmates. Meanwhile, the other girl, who already seems to have some powers, apparently gets no greater joy than to torture Ran. And they haven't done much to solve the current mystery, which has mainly been going on in the background while the main cast has been introduced and developed. Still, a pretty interesting series, though it's not as immediately light-hearted as you might expect given other descriptions.

Zero no Tsukaima - Princess no Rondo - - Another season of Zero no Tsukaima. If you enjoyed the first two, make sure to check this out. If not, you're probably not going to find anything different to enjoy here. If you haven't watched the first two, consider trying them out.

Amuri in Star Ocean - Not actually something from Summer 2008, but it got its first episode subbed recently so I'll throw it in here. It's an all-CGI OVA set in space about this group of three superhuman girls who have special powers posed as allergic reactions. For instance, the main girl, Amuri, bounces violently off of anything that touches her (which of course leads to some antics in the zero-g environment of space). She later becomes something akin to a magical girl and is able to use her power to vanquish a spaceship in what's effectively a game of Space Pong. The show is incredibly cute and happy but at the same time pretty dark (Amuri's backstory in particular is not very happy, even though it's told in a series of crayon drawings). Still, lots of fun and pretty visually impressive, so I'd recommend checking this out.

Still on the docket are Antique Bakery, Birdy the Mighty Decode, Hidamari Sketch x365, and Mahou Tsukai ni Taisetsu na Koto -Natsu no Sora-.

I don't think I'm going to get around to watching Antique Bakery.

Birdy the Mighty Decode - This is decent enough. The premise is that galactic cop Birdy is chasing this criminal who's fled to planet Earth (modern Earth, no space travel, a "backwater planet", so to speak). Birdy and the alien start having a shootout, and Mainguy is caught up in it and killed by Birdy. Because the rest of the galaxy is so advanced, they can revive him, but to keep his consciousness intact, they need to transfer it to Birdy's body. So now they have to share the body. Anyway, it's very light on the ecchi comedy, thankfully, and it hasn't committed any other faux pas, plus it seems like an interesting premise, so I'll stick with it.

Hidamari Sketch x365 - Watch the first season, then watch this. What happens when Akiyuki Shinbo gets a little too much control over a project: utter chaos, in the best possible way.

Koihime Musou - It's like Romance of the Three Kingdoms, if all the main characters were girls instead of guys. Based on an h-game, so all the "requisite" fanservice is there, and don't think you won't be finding one girl of every stereotype. The first episode is so jam-packed full of anime cliches it's funny, but there's no possible way I'll watch a second episode unless I have conclusive proof it suddenly turns amazing.

Mahou Tsukai ni Taisetsu na Koto -Natsu no Sora- - Apparently based in the same world as the original "Mahou Tsukai ni Taisetsu na Koto", but I don't think you need to have watched the first one (at least, I haven't). Incredibly slow, to the point where I don't know what kind of thing are going to happen in the show by the end of Episode 1. I'll give it another episode to see what it's actually supposed to be about, but if nothing significant happens there either, I'm done.

Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu - Nogizaka Haruka has a secret. While on the outside she's a prim and proper girl, she's really a closet otaku. Mainguy isn't an otaku, but he finds out about her secret, and promises to help her keep it secret. This is another "How many cliches can they fit in?" anime and seems to be exclusively about the budding relationship between Haruka and Mainguy. But don't go in expecting Konata levels of otaku. No, Haruka is a pretty lame otaku, which hurts the show quite a bit I think.

World Destruction - Tied into some game by SEGA. Basically, the story follows the World Destruction Committee as they try to... destroy the world. Trying to stop them is the World Savior Committee. We don't know why the World Destruction Committee is trying to destroy the world, but they're the protagonists, and this doesn't seem to be some kind of weak "destroy the fake world and revive the true one" crap. Kind of interesting, but not enough information is given in the first episode to really know what's going on.

Xam'd Lost Memories - Despite the title, this is quite good. By BONES and in a style similar to Eureka Seven. Not much happens in the first episode, but by the end Mainguy has turned into a monster, and then apparently shot to death. Weird, but it has some promise, and it's by BONES so there's a good chance it won't suck. There's still a little too much ominous foreshadowing early on, but hopefully that will clear up soon.

Yakushiji Ryoko no Kaiki Jikenbo - Good and fun to watch. Follows title character Yakushiji Ryoko, head of effectively the Weird **** Squad of the police, and her lackey Mainguy, as they investigate Weird ****. Their first case, which spans the first two episodes, has them looking into a series of deaths where the victims spontaneously mummify in the middle of public places. Ryoko and Mainguy have a great rapport throughout the episodes, and the case itself is kind of interesting.

I'll probably watch Blade of the Immortal and Natsume Yuujinchou, though I predict neither will be my cup of tea.

And it's old, but Cowboy Bebop live-adaptation should be interesting, I guess. I hear Keanu Reeves has Spike, though that might just be a rumor. I just hope they keep at least some of the music.

Digressing a bit, I'm crossing my fingers that the Hollywood DN adaptation turns out well 'cause I could actually see it being pretty nice if it's done well.

Of course, speaking of others, I'll at least go see the DB one for possible laughs and "WTF!"s. And just waiting to see more info on Akira.
