I'm up to Mount Gulug in Final Fantasy IX. I have now begun my playthrough of Final Fantasy VIII, I'm going to let my play overlap in case I get irritated/stuck/bored with FF8. Final Fantasy VIII is awesome. I'm 90 minutes in, just did the first microdungeon to get Ifrit. Playing without a guide, playing the game properly, is fanTASTIC. Picking where to put your GFs, picking your attack abilities, junctioning your stats creatively, using cool stuff like Card, playing cards, feeling the environment and its residents... It's really a great experience. Yes, the menues are sloppy. Yes, you need to do a lot of thinking and planning to maximize enjoyment. And YES, you need to abandon your preconceived notions about what an RPG is. But you will most definitely be rewarded. If you want to enjoy this game, don't equip the GF ability in any character's command menu unless specifically necessary for a battle. It totally opens up your game. And don't be afraid to use Magic. Also, use Card Mod and Magic Refine abilities if you have a problem with Drawing. I write better when reacting/responding to other people's input, so if you have feelings or questions about FF8 feel free to post them. --- Help Revive One of GameFAQs' Most Historic Boards: ZSB http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/gentopic.php?board=548 {εί} |

8 was one of the easiest FFs I have ever played. Is that a problem? Hell no, it means I have to put less effort into the gameplay and get to pay attention to the story. Final Fantasy VIII: Dead in the water with the 360 purchase and the fact that I haven't been in Sandra's room much this week. Should pick up again in a little while, still interested in the replay. FF9 might be toast, though. Dead Rising is still absolutely fantastic. Ever spent hours just running around in GTA, building up your wanted level by beating up on residents? Dead Rising is like that to the tenth power. Mix that with great graphics, an interesting story with a very clever and engrossing mission structure, a pinch of Majora's Mask replayability, and the interesting and ever-present photography mechanic (with many interesting applications), and you have a game that pleases on many levels. The mall is huge, the variety of weapons is amazing, and the little tricks are copious. COPIOUS. Chromehounds. Single player is awesome. Great presentation, nice background and plot, voice acting and stuff is pretty good. Missions are short but sweet. It's clearly aimed toward the online audience, and I have no problem with that. I am bothered by the fact that you have to design your own mech before hopping online, and even more that designing your own mech is not user friendly at all. I managed to slap one together with a bit of trial and error. My FF9 play looks to be in the toilet, might be the same for FF8. I think I'll skip over Wii this Christmas just so I can burn off my backlog. I have to play: Paper Mario 2 Finish RE4 Pikmin 2 DMC1 and 3 Shadow of the Colossus Dragon Quest VIII God of War And that's not including the 5-6 games I plan to buy before the year is over. Paper Mario 2 might take you 20-30 hours, depending on how many optional things you do between chapters. You shouldn't have any problem putting the game down for a while because of the story, but you may not want to do that mid-dungeon. Doing an entire chapter at a time and then taking a break might be the best way. The mandatory backtracking becomes pretty obnoxious as you go on, but I'd suggest at least trying to finish chapter 3. Everyone loves chapter 3. --- The Scientist knows. "Look around you. Just look around you. Have you worked out what we're looking for?" |

3 hours into Okami, and it's awesome. Graphics are great, tasks are great, abilities are great... I'll write a longer story later, or on theZend. Great. This game won't play on my PS2. It gets past the Browser screen fine, but it stops when it tries to load the area I'm in after loading my save. So I need to play it on my room mate's. Which is a problem because 1. I don't want him playing it all the time and 2. I wanted to keep my PS2 backlog and Cube/360 backlog seperate so I can crack into both. First attempt, the screen had a bunch of little paws and then just kept on loading forever. Second attempt, before the paws even appeared it ground to a halt, including the music this time. PS2 is a massive piece of garbage. Trying it one more time, then I'll put the PS2 horizontal. Nope, doesn't work, GOD DAMN IT. I'm going to swap PS2s with my dad. Someone validate my postings by posting, thx. Where's face? DQ8 is giving me a headache. I will now be playing through DW1+2 and 3 on GBC. I originally planned on replaying 3 because it's so damn amazing, but then I thought I'd go through all three of them and write an article about it on Zend. They are playable in my boring classes, which will hopefully guarantee that I complete them. I've watched my dad play through DW1, but never played it myself. I hope it goes by quickly. I have zero knowledge of DW2. DW3 is one of my favorite RPGs, and will be the cream of the crop. I remember when I first saw Dragon Quest/Warrior. I was watching my cousin play, and it was the most baffling thing I'd ever seen. It really shows how abstract (and silly) a lot of RPG conventions are, but how we've taken them for granted for so long. DQ8 kind of sent the message home to me, when I was wondering why they still had transitions into battle. My cousin and I beat the game, and he left it at my house for a while. I was never good enough to get very far (and probably scared of getting lost), so I just killed the final boss over and over. I'd like to get into DQ3 again sometime... --- The Scientist knows. I love the DQ series, though I don't think it works well in 3D. While the visuals in DQ8 are gorgeous and the game has just about the best world map in a game ever, the battles feel far too slow. No on Xeno. I use GFaqs9. Sci, it's for GBC, not GBA. It's a port-down of the SFC remake. Adds animation to combat, MiniMedals, pachisi sidequest, an extra job class, and some more weapons and stuff.
