Nintendo follows up its statement that Microsoft bought Rare with this:

"We actually have a new Star Fox game under way. We have Namco developing that in Japan. ... It is a GameCube game. My understanding is it will come out in the second half of 2003. And we're going to be getting started on our own Donkey Kong product internally."

Well, it's about time. Of course this is just a tiny statement and might easily amount to nothing. But just think if EAD and Miyamoto got behind a new REAL Donkey Kong game. A good one, at that.

Donkey Kong Country was revolutionary graphic-wise, but the game wasn't much more than an above average sidescroller. I always hated the hit and collision detection in the game myself. DKC2 is my favorite of the SNES series and had a very good atmosphere and feel. Then DKC3 builds on 2 in some ways, and botches the series in a few other ways. The games weren't pure scavenger hunts, but they sort of were an indication of what Rare would get away with on the N64, as in all the DKC games, there isn't much to do when you finish a level, other than go back and find the bonus barrels and DK coin. All in all you could just slowly start "checking off" events as you completeted them, which turns into a drag.

Then Diddy Kong Racing showed up. So it isn't a true DK game but I'm talking about it anyway. While the actual racing was not half as polished and fun to play as Mario Kart, the game did include several new takes on the racing idea, and had enough variety and things to do that I liked it. Of course once again, it becomes like most Rare games where it just isn't fun after awhile. Today I'd never just pick it up to play in Multiplayer, yet I would play Mario Kart.

Then Donkey Kong 64, which is the ultimate example of a scavenger hunt collecting game, and how bad a game can be when rushed. It didn't feel like the DKC games even. And the collecting was twice as bad as Banjo Kazooie.

Then Donkey Kong Racing is announced. It seemed to take some of the unique aspects of Diddy Kong Racing and bring them to a new level. What I was most interested in was that the game supposedly would have many different routes and very large tracks. Now of course this game has ceased to exist, which was one of the only Rare games I was looking forward to (besides Perfect Dark2). I think it went without saying Rare would make another 3D DK game, but I was not looking forward to one, after DK64.

But NOW, Nintendo might work on one? They better! I'd like to see one show up in another year or two starring Mario and DK. It would not only be a DK game by Nintendo, but it could also serve as another major Mario game. THAT would be nice.

Did you know:

The first game in the DK, Mario, Zelda complex ever done is The Donkey Kong Arcade game in 1981.
Before that time, Miyamoto was designing posters to be affixed onto arcade game consoles. End 1979 he submitted to Nintendo the idea for a new character: Donkey Kong. As for the name, he just wanted to create an English name meaning "silly gorilla". As he consulted his dictionary, there was the word "donkey" for "silly", and apes are often called "kong" in Japan. He just mixed them together.
In that new arcade games, you could play with a number of secondary characters, including a little red man: Mario.

One of the new fun things he wanted to realize on DK was that players could move the character around and jump all over the screen (and this idea was brought up for the very first time in the history of arcade games).
Also, due to the technical restrictions of those days, he could not depict the movement of hair on most characters in that game: that's why Mario had to wear a hat!!!!

Nintendo decided to name and promote each character for Donkey Kong. So because they wanted Mario to appear in many of the later games with a variety of different roles, they made a vague portrait for him, as "middle aged man with a strong sense of justice, and not handsome". When they made Mario Brothers, because the setting was an underground world, Mario became a plumber....

Indeed...also, Universal Studios sued Nintendo for using the name "Kong" which they claimed was taken from their old movie King Kong. They went to court over it (Howard Lincoln was Nintendo's lawyer at this time) and it was discovered that Universal didn't even have the rights to King Kong, and they knew this when they tried to sue Nintendo. Well, in the end Universal had to fork over some money.

Hey...I was just looking at some screenshots of the upcoming Kirby: Nightmare in Dreamland GBA game (after ALTTP pointed it out)... and I realized...these are the SAME levels as in Kirby's Adventure!

Kirby's Adventure is the one and only NES kirby game, the second in the series, and the first game where Kirby gained powers from enemies (kirby's dreamland 2 followed shortly afterward). I always felt the game was lots of fun, and actually sort of challenging later on when you're looking for the secret switches.

But nowhere have I seen that this is the same game as Kirby's Adventure. Yet I recognize shots of many of the same levels and level layouts (although the graphics are about 5x more detailed and cool). Even the new name of the game ties in to the story of Kirby's Adventure. I'm guessing it's a remake, with a few added things (linking up for multiplayer, and probably a few extra levels or bonus things).

So, while Kirby's Adventure is great fun and this looks to be a fine remake of it, it's just that- another GBA REMAKE. Great for gamers that didn't play the first, but for people like ME, I was expecting a brand new Kirby game!! It would have surely been one more reason to get a GBA- but not now, I already own the original cart.

It'll be interesting to see just how much they state that the game is a remake, since I haven't heard anything on it yet saying it is (yet is so obviously is).

Right now I'm playing Turok Evolution, and I must admit that it will probably go on my "Favorite FPS" games list. The graphics, and atmosphere are beautiful. It also has a flying mode that is almost more pleasant than the one in Star Wars. The only problem was that the controls are a bit confusing at first, but you can changes them around until you get what is suitable for you. Have a look into it.

I'm getting Timesplitters 2 in a couple weeks; the controls in that one are customizable down to each button, I think. Which should help since the GCN controller doesn't have quite the functionality of the Xbox and psx controllers for FPS games, in most cases.

I'm afraid this game will go by unnoticed by many, which is sad since it is the next Goldeneye or Perfect Dark, without question.

Perfect Dark 2, if it's anything like the first, I feel will be a MUST-BUY for people that are FPS fans and have Xbox.... I'd buy it, but I won't buy a whole system for just one game. Obviously Rare might make some other good games for the system, but Kameo and Conker probably won't appeal to me. I'll have to wait and see. Right now I would only want PD2, but Timesplitters2 will suffice, and may possibly be a better game in the long run, and luckily that is for all 3 systems.

ScientistPG: hmmm, Blinx the TimeSweeper seems to be pulling in some very average ratings....I thought it was supposed to be an Xbox killer-ap and mario squasher.
ScientistPG: sounds like they had a good idea, but couldn't keep the game up in other areas (camera, control, pacing, etc)
ScientistPG: when I first heard about the game and how you could "rewind" and "fastfoward" to give a whole new perspective on level design and gameplay, I was excited, but I imagined the game as a sidescroller! I see it's just a 3D platformer...I think 2D would have worked better for their idea...
martianinvader9: Maybe it would've, but then it wouldn't sell. Lousy know-it-all 3Ders.
ScientistPG: yes, 3D is the downfall of so many games, because while it can introduce the new things, there are so many problems that are difficult to solve, with the control and viewpoint.
martianinvader9: When it was 2-D all you had to worry about was the challenge, because everything could be seen easily.

Today i beat the boss of Super Mario sunshine i had 88 shines. I won't spoil it for anyone but i disheartened I'd give it
9/10 for comedy
2/10 for epicality
8/10 for dificulty

I found although the idea was simple and i beat the boss on my second go it was quite close as the Bosses kept on attacking.

My thoughts on the ending were good i like it, I thought it was inspired the J-league at least parts of the music were.

After hearing what the boss said after and how it talked i decide to climb the Shine Gate and commit suicide, unfortunately I remembered it was a Mario game so instead of suicide i landed on a parasol jumped to the next parasol and landed in a Palm tree. WEEEEEE!! Here we go!

TIMESPLITTERS 2...

From the little I played, it is excellent and indeed better than Perfect Dark (which implies its better than Goldeneye, duh). But even to those that liked GE better than PD (for whatever reason) I see where this game has part of a "GE" feel to it PD didn't quite have.

Although I barely got into the story mode, the focus is all on multiplayer. Even two major single player modes, challenges and arcade league, are based off multiplayer in structure. In fact that mode on the whole isn't even CALLED multiplayer, it's called "Arcade". It's a very smooth game and while it took some time to feel comfortable with the controls, I got used to it faster than expected. However the GCN controller does indeed feel extremely limited for this game, with just L and R and the weird Z button for shoulder controls, which are the most convenient to use when you're using both analogs. The PS2 version is much better in this way (and that's about the ONLY way that version is better, unless you plan on hooking up multiple systems).

Although I normally don't like FPS games, I do like this breed that Rare started with GE, which I believe is the CORRECT way to do a console shooter (take THAT, halo). Freedom, no limitations, and freeform style fighting, that all works very fast, with loads of very customizable multiplayer. THAT's how to do a console FPS.

The one gripe I have with TS2 so far (that I knew I'd have weeks ago) is the fact that I don't like how some of the multiplayer is structured. Team games are limited. So for example you could pick "deathmatch" or "team deathmatch" as SEPARATE modes. I hate this. They should have done it like Perfect Dark did- and include Teams as an "overall" option that could be applied to ANY scenario. But instead they limited Teams by only providing them to specific scenarios, as far as I can tell. This blows, considering it would have been so easy to switch. So although overall the multiplayer is much more thorough, accessible, and fun than Perfect Dark so far, PD did have its head on a bit better for assembling and customizing multiplayer matches. I also wish I could select more than one tune for each match, but one at a time I guess is OK, considering I can at least pick, and not have one forced at Random like I had to do in GE with its half-assed options.

Last August it was said to get a "worldwide" release in 2003, but since then nothing has shown this to be true, and stuff definitely points against it. As far as the actual game goes, although I haven't played it, I've seen videos and read much about it, and it looks absolutely top notch. I also love shoot-em-ups and Treasure is my favorite gaming company other than Nintendo, so it's worth more than $50 to me. 5 levels with 30+ variations along with an ingenious system and the usual Treasure polish equal massive replay value. I love just picking up and playing a shooter; I'd probably play this game's 5 levels over and over for 50 hours before I'd TOUCH a 50 hour RPG. Why is it "not that great of a game"?- I'm just curious. Nearly every "bad" thing I've read about it strikes me as a plus, not a minus- such as the length, system, modes, difficulty, and screen display.

I meant it wasn't worth 50 to me, it could certainly be worth 50 to you. I'm not a huge fan of shoot-em-ups so other than the black/white switching, it's just another shoot-em-up to me. I'm not saying it's not fun and I didn't notice any glaring negatives (other than I don't read Japanese, but that's my fault) but there's not much difference than an snes shoot-em-up to me,

Space MegaForce is a great SNES vertical shooter...

Metroid Prime:
Names of some of the areas in the game are known now. "Pehndrana Drifts" and "Magmoor Cavern." Now, while Pehndrana and Magmoor sort of sound like names of worlds that can merge in with the classic names, like Norfair and Maridia, why'd they add "drifts" and "cavern" to the end of the name? It's against tradition and makes the name sound stupid. Very minor quibble, but that's the type of thing Metroid fans will zero in on.

F-ZeroGC:
New screenshots are out. It looks like the game will be consistent with the past ones. Despite Sega working on the game, that could likely be even be for the better, and hopefully the game makes it here by next fall. Those large circular tunnels where you can spin around 360 degrees seem to be back, and from these shots the backgrounds seem to be fairly detailed, something a lot of people complained about wiht F-Zero X. While some of the tracks look a bit more narrow than before, it seems there are several wide ones as well.

After watching some more F-Zero GC videos it seems to definitely preserve the feel of F-Zero X, one of my favorite racing games. The racers seem all packed in a crowd again, and that veering and speeding up/slowing down seems just like before. This is all good, just so there's enough new stuff, but some of the tracks seem like they'll be more complicated now, in addition to having more detailed backgrounds. I hope we'll get some cool character information and background within the game this time, as the F-Zero characters are always cool and the whole stories behind them and details on rivalries can add to the intensity of the game. F-ZeroX sort of had a wimpy conclusion to the leagues (wait, they called it cups)...just a sprite of the character and a comic book style box with them saying something, like "I am a sly fox!" Hopefully they'll go beyond that this time, but from the videos it seems Sega certainly won't be taking the easy way out on characters, as they seem to go out of their way to show them in the video.

I've had this image for a couple weeks now, but forgot to post it. It appears to be the Zelda GC map. There was some question as to if it actually is or not. Obviously in the addy it says "gameboy_zelda" but that's certainly not LttP's map, and I don't think four swords has one. Some of it, such as that icy place, and the forest area do seem very Zelda-like, although the "ocean" Zelda GC is supposed to have seems absent, but of course not all the map can be seen from that. Someone also said that looked like a map for a different game, but I don't know...

I hope this doesn't make it into the game. I am, of course, talking about the area-type thing coming out onto the screen on the right side. This could very well be a mistake by the site, however, but even if it's not, I must tell all of you anticipators to not be scared, because there isn't anything to worry about. You would think that the good people at Nintendo would fix this before the game is released, which they should, but if they don't, they will be eternally evil for that indeed...

5 new capcom games, exclusive to GC most likely. Here's my thoughts on each so far:

biohazard4- well, if it's going to be like the remake of RE, this won't be for me. But, the controls are apparently different now, and there are no prerendered backdrops I guess. Both are +'s

project no. 3- cookie cutter third person action game starring lara croft's sister. Some cool robot designs, but that's about it so far.

killer7- has some good potential...so far we know it has a wacked out story starring a guy in a wheelchair with multiple personalities or something, which is cool. Tough to say what the game will be like though. I believe this game will come out last.

that 2D game I forgot the name of starring a superhero guy- This looks to be the best of the bunch, as far as the idea goes. It seems it could provide some innovations for a sidescroller/fighting style game.

Dead Phoenix- good concept, but fairly ambitious. It's this type of game that can easily fall through, especially on the technology side, because of what they are doing. We shall see.

Okay, just saw the movie clip of Viewtiful Joe (the sidescroller). It looks really, really cool. Reminds me of a Treasure game. I'll be looking forward to this.

*a random guy enters the topic*

Random guy: quick! quick there's been a kidnapping!!!

Jamie: well whats going on here?

*random guy and Jamie go to the scene*

RG: Look! He was just tossing barrels when all of a sudden he stopped and fell.

Jamie: Damn what a way to go. from #1 to a shadow in peoples memorys.

RG: say who was he anyway?

Jamie: thats a good question RG.

This ladies and gents is the story of Nintendo's once #1 character, Mr. I want to chucka the barrels, Donkey Kong.
How did Nintendo's #1 take such a fall(no pun intended).
But it seems weird that DK has taken such a plummit to the bottom of the heap behind "Back atcha" Kirby, "Metroids Back!" Samus, "It'sa me" "Mr. Nintendo" Mario and "The Hero of time" Link.
It seems since DK64 all Nintendo have asked of DK is cameo appearances in the SSBs and various other Nintendo multiplayers. I don't believe its DKs time and he's not stuck in the 90's. but he should not be reduced to a communication game which is basically the original title he started in, Donkey Kong +. Which basically is Donkey Kong creator you take Donkey Kong and then add a GBA to create levels and paly them. no more no less.
